Trey Durden is an author, patient advocate, and founder dedicated to transforming how the world understands and treats chronic neurological dysfunction. After contracting Lyme disease at the age of eight, Trey sustained a severe traumatic brain injury compounded by decades of heavy psychiatric medications. Over the years, his brain deteriorated to a critical point marked by multiple daily seizures, severe bipolar diagnoses, and intense psychiatric episodes.
Trey’s life changed permanently when he connected with functional neurologist Dr. David E. Kemp. Through targeted, neuroplasticity-based interventions, Dr. Kemp guided Trey through a full neurological recovery, pulling him "Back From Hell." Experiencing firsthand the restorative power of functional neurology ignited Trey’s mission: proving that long-standing mental and physical suffering can be reversed by restoring underlying brain function.
To bring these life-saving modalities to the public, Trey founded the Functional Neurology Relief Foundation Inc. (FxN) in 2024, where he serves as President. Through FxN, he oversees widespread public education and actively funds the FxN Reimbursement Program to ensure patients in severe need can afford clinical care. Trey also spearheads FxN University, delivering educational coursework in partnership with the University of North Florida, and collaborates with Dr. Kemp to build accredited curriculum through CAGEN certification for graduate-level Functional Neurology Assistants.
Beyond advocacy and education, Trey actively drives technological innovation in the clinical space. He volunteers regularly at clinics—including Kemp Functional Neurology—to stay immersed in the latest clinical protocols emerging from the Carrick Institute. Collaborating with international engineers in New Zealand, Trey and Dr. Kemp are pioneering a state-of-the-art Off-Vertical Rotational Axis Machine designed to deliver therapeutic rotational stimulation safely without risking patient injury.
Trey is the co-author of Back From Hell, the first installment in an upcoming six-book series chronicling real-world clinical recoveries alongside Dr. David E. Kemp. Through his writing, foundation leadership, and clinical development, Trey continues working to ensure no patient is left behind in the dark.
